The mini-series was aired for a second time on December 17 - 21, 1984 (source: Kevin Besner)
There was an appearance of an unnamed Joe who may have been Sparks (left
image; character in lower right corner). The unidentified character appeared
in the first, second and fifth episodes of the mini-series, which was not
part of the 1990s syndication package (Matthew Pak's 3 3/4" G.I.Joe Collector Guide - Volume Two: The Television Episodes).
As seen with the right image, Clutch's character design changes in the
middle of the series.
For about half a second, Duke appeared with glasses and a goatee after
his Sky Hawk was destroyed.
The Palace of Doom, which was the second location visited by the Joe
and Cobra forces, is more than likely a nod to the film Indiana Jones
and the Temple of Doom.
As the Joes' Pac Rats bow to one another outside the Palace of Doom,
their chirping noises as they congratulate one another are very similar
to the Star Wars character R2-D2.
Roadblock's line "It ain't toyland, babe" creates a nice visual play
on words since the show starred characters from a toy line and because
there was a operette by Victor Herbert called Babes in Toyland.
As Zartan examines his model, he states, "I adore seeing a scheme come
together." The line is very similar to one spoken by George Peppard, who
would place a cigar in his mouth and say with a smile at the end of nearly
A-Team episode: "I love it when a plan comes together." More A-Team references
would appear in other episodes, like "Lasers
in the Night" and "The
Wrong Stuff."
Dialogue:
The Baroness: We must get past them and reach The Island of
No Return. Zartan! Where are you? I order you to respond to my vorders
[sic]. Zartan, answer me at once!
Torch: Ain't you going to answer the lady, Zartan?
Zartan: When it serves my purpose...and not before.
Time: 27 seconds [includes
shots before and after the edit for reference]
Commentary: The line may
have been cut because a special interest group complained about the pronunciation
of the word "order."

Because the mini-series was released on video tape, the previews and
reviews of previous episodes were trimmed so that the series could appear
as a movie. In order to preserve the history of the mini-series, I have
archived the brief moments in the show that refreshed our memories and
continue to help us recall the mini-series to this very day.
