Home Episode Summaries Season 2 Last Hour to Doomsday - Notes
Credits: written by Tom Degenais
Production Number: 600-50
Original Airdate: September 25, 1986
Destro has built a new weapon for Cobra, a Vortex Cone that uses the
ocean’s electro-magnetic fields to whip up huge tsunamis. Lady J and Flint
attempt to infiltrate Cobra’s secret base by passing Lady J off as the
Baroness. Duke and Hawk send a dummy task force out to decoy Cobra Commander
from his underwater base; while this goes on, the real Joe force attacks
Cobra. They are nearly destroyed by Cobra’s newly introduced Android Troopers;
Flint and Lady J are captured and tossed into a pen with a giant octopus.

* indicates the character was silent during the episode
"'Last Hour to Doomsday' by Tom Dagenais was the last thing he ever wrote
before succumbing to cancer. It was originally slated for the first
season but we thought Tom wasn't going to finish it and replaced it with
another episode. When Tom did finally deliver it, we had to add new
characters and re-write it slightly to accomdate the new plot twists ie
Serpentor, etc." - Buzz Dixon, Sept. 13, 2000
The snake head that rises from the undersea base (left) bears a striking
resemblence to the one from the G.I.Joe: The Revenge of Cobra (right).
General Hawk normally appears with his jacket, but in one scene he is wearing
just a brown shirt.
|
Cobra Commander states that the Joes have 48 hours to surrender, however, the clock that appears on the screen changes from 48:00:00 to 48:59:59 rather than 47:59:59. |
|
|
Another problem with Cobra's countdown clock is that there appear to be ninety-something seconds at one point judging by the digits behind General Hawk's head. |
|
Wet-Suit's character design changes from a blue and grey diving suit
to an orange and black one while examining Destro's Vortex Cone.
The color of Lifeline's helmet changes from white to red during one
scene (left and center images) and appears white again while he is swimming
inside Cobra's base. It is also interesting to note that Lifeline, who
is a pacifist, was carrrying a harpoon gun while swimming inside the base.
|
Destro appears to be wearing a black shirt. |
|
|
The Cobra symbols are missing on the non-Eel agents and the first version of Roadblock's character design was included. |
