Instead of recycling animated scenes from comic book commercial, the commercial uses scenes from the miniseries G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero.

Since a rough version of the Rattler appeared in a number of scenes during the miniseries, which were recycled for the toy commercial's animation sequence, Sunbow's design team may deserve some credit for creating the toy. Like many toy commercial jingles, the song in the animation sequence includes the name of the toy in the lyrics: "Cobra Rattler It's the wickedest weapon yet, you know Rattler's gonna get G.I.Joe"
